FEATUred MURAL: William “Bill” Garrett Mural
A 25-foot mural of local legend, William “Bill” Garrett, was recently completed on the east side of Cagney’s building on E. Broadway St. in Shelbyville. This tribute piece aligns with the 50th anniversary of Garrett’s passing and stands to honor his legacy of achievements. Pamela Bliss, a professional artist from Indianapolis, is the creator of the piece.
This mural is part of BRCF’s “Pride in Place” program. The initiative seeks to foster community pride, enhance the quality of life for residents, and create a welcoming atmosphere for visitors and potential new residents. Through our past placemaking efforts such as the traffic cabinet art boxes, the sundial at Blue River Trailhead, and the Alley activation on E. Washington St., we are reimagining our current public spaces. Our past efforts in placemaking helped our organization to realize that we can ignite positive social change by providing community identity and community collaboration. READ MORE
E. Washington St. Alley Murals
The Alley murals were a project collaboration between Mainstreet Shelbyville and BRCF. The project was funded by a grant from Indiana Arts Commission, a donation made by the Indiana Grand Casino, and BRCF funds. The Alley is intended to look like a hallway in a historical home, with murals on the walls, chandeliers hung from above, and benches to sit on. Learn more about each mural by clicking on the image.
